Location

Lake Macquarie is arguably the largest salt water lake in the Southern Hemisphere and twice the size of Sydney Harbour. It is situated just South of Newcastle and just North of the Central Coast.
it has inflows primarily from Cockle Creek at the North West end and Dora Creek at the South West end with a catchment of 604.4km2.
From our home base to the pick-up point at Awaba House jetty we have the Lake Macquarie Art Gallery and Cafe, then at the Northern end of the Lake we have Speers Point Park (achieving best recreational children’s park some years ago) moving clockwise we then have Warner’s Bay which has a village atmoshere with great restaurants and cafe’s Elebana and Valentine waterfront homes and the first concessional mooring (allows hook-up for up to 24-hrs) all the way around to Belmont.
Avoid the shallows around Belmont South and check out Marks Point - Marinas have fuel if top-up is needed and the fuel is Premium Unleaded - the boat consumes 38L/hr at cruising speeds (42kph / 23knots at 3500rpm) and considerably more when opened up toward the 61kph / 33knots (at 4800rpm) mark or towing a skier or banana tow along inflatable.

The Lake’s portal to the Tasman Sea is at Swansea (it is forbidden for hirers to go outside of the Lake.

Steer clear of the shallows around Swansea and check out the Pulbah Island Nature Reserve (there are a few courtesy moorings) and we suggest if this is a destination to ask for the optional inflatable tender to row in to shore and check out the wildlife, etc. (the tender can be attached and secured on the foredeck when not in use - it cannot be towed at speed).

Then back to Murrays beach, Cams Wharf, Nords Wharf and round to Gwardalan where you would enjoy a meal at the Bowling Club (Jetty and there is also a concessional mooring). then up and around Point Wolstoncroft (which is a State Conservation area and also has the Sports and Recreation Centre), on to Summerland Point, Chain Valley Bay, then past Vales Point Power Station to Mannering Park and on to Wyee Bay and around to the Moriset Peninsular and around into Bonnells Bay, where you can navigate up Dora Creek to the roadbridge at Wangi Road- then back to the Lake and continue (don’t attempt the shallows of Lake Eraring) to Myuna Bay and on around the Wangi Wangi peninsular (the RSL at Wangi Wangi serves a good meal and there is a public jetty). Then on to Rathmines in Killaben Bay and check out the WW2 Catalina Flying Boat Base (concessional moorings and jetty).

On around Coal Point to Toronto (the Royal Motor Yacht Club is there. Out and around Bolton Point to Marmong Point where you’ll need to phone the owner to meet you ar Awaba House Jetty for handover.
We hope you have had a great time and page 66 of the download manual has a map of the Lake.

The lake abounds with fish (Fishing License required - see Service NSW to get one if needed) - If that is an interest then we can provide some assistance.
Whist the boat is equipped with a fishfinder, you need to be able to discern what is being read and for any accuracy, we suggest scanning speeds onno creater than 6kph/ 4knots and in areas where fish are known to abound. Fish in the Lake include: Mulloway, bream, dusky flathead, tailor, squid, luderick, sand whiting, yellowtail,  kingfish and Australian salmon.
You shall need to bring your own equipment, but we can fit up to 4 tubes onto the stern rail on request.
