Yes! Somehow we got to have a heraldic crest for the Childs name.
Looking at our lineage has made me very mindful of the evil within the hearts of mankind. Especially when looking at the back-stories of my ancestors
In the past I’ve played around with the family tree and this journey started for me with a cousin (Ted Gilberd from Auckland in New Zealand) of my grandfather William Gilberd (tracing the Gilberd lineage and producing a Gilberd book)
Having a bit of time on my hands since retiring, I ended up tracing my lineage, generation by generation, all the way back to Adam & Eve (125th great grandparents) with some reliance upon the tentative links from legend. To manage the process, I’ve mostly not included most siblings off the direct line and stop when the trail “peters out”, but it has been quite an interesting journey and the relationship helps to make history more real.
Interesting to see that if there had not been merging of the lineage lines the ancestry tree would bloat the branching to 340,282.366.920.938.000,000,000,000,000,000,000.000 individuals and that’s without taking into account siblings. Somewhere, we all share something like this heritage.
So it appears that I come down the line from the Hebrew Kings through David (100th great grandfather), then down through all of the (bad mainly with the odd good) Kings of Judah, then over to Ireland, Scotland and Wales with the Vikings mixed in- whist another line goes back through the Roman Emperor Augustus [Ian’s 62nd Great Grandfather](remember that census imposed upon Joseph & Mary at the birth of Jesus), there’s also Saint Paul’s mum Pricilla [also a 62nd great grandmother]and her other son Rufus Pudens who was married to Claudia (who are both mentioned in 2 Timothy 4:21) back to her brother King Coellyn (a 59th Great Grandfather) being the first to bring the message of Jesus to England then we have Queen Boudica (another 59th great grandmother) and down through Old King Cole [Coel] of Colchester (56th Great Grandfather), Lady Godiva (36th Great Grandmother) over to the Emperor Constantine (53rd Great Grandfather), plus Saint Augustine of Hipo’s sister Perpetua Abess (54th Great Grandmother) , we also have Charlemagne(42nd Great Grandfather), Fulk (29th Great Grandfather) who was the Emperor/King of Jerusalem, then the to the Vandals (through Hildis 45th great grandmother) who had burned Rome and instituted the source for vandalism, William the Conqueror (33rd Great Grandfather), (bad) King John 1st (26th Great Grandfather), Mary Queen of Scots and her son King James who had (11th great uncle) Willy Gilberd as his surgeon (Chief Scientist of England under QE1 & KJ1)
My favourite is the Irish King in Letterkenny Donegal, whose wife (55th great grandmother) drowned him in a wine vat. Many were caught with their pants down or dresses up or were so accused and many were executed and one wife even got caught with her son, with both getting the chop.
It was interesting to see how the so called Church used them and they used the Church as an excuse for some dreadful and horrific deeds. I can only hope that those who hear about such things will discern that such was not in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ nor reflecting scriptural truth but rather was falsify motivated by greed and selfish ambition of both the Church and of my ancestors.
It was refreshing to find that a number of my first generation ancestors were the first spreaders of the Christian Gospels into England as well as into Russia and such early spreading would have been less likely to have been corrupted by the Church hierarchy.
I know it is quite difficult for many such as my daughters in law and especially for Ashley as she was not even informed of who her father was or about his life until just prior to her mothers death and even for her mother, very little is known, as they were descended from Slaves bought to the US.
Here is a dump of what I’ve come up with so far [Alex Childs’ family tree] BTW- don’t take any notice of the order of marriage as it goes from spouse selected, not chronologically
